Sundays longrun

Started just before 7am. Ran with Michael & Tamara. Great run this. Forgot how long it took but we ran an easy pace. I really wanted to test my foot out & this run has lots of hills to test it. It was going great untill around the 18k mark then started to get sore. Can still run on it. It's pulled up good now. Went for a bit of a swim at the end.
Am going to go do a cycle class soon.

Still reckon I should be right for Canberra. Thats still 2weeks away

Trotters 10k

Happy with this run. Was hard on the lungs but the foot felt great. I ran in my flats. Thought it was going to be alot harder but saying that I couldn't seem to go much faster. Pulled up alot better than 6@6 on Wed & didn't feel I needed a medic at all!
Finished in 38:34. Reckon I could've done a sub 37min 3 weeks ago.
Anyway got 4th overall

Canberra is starting to look like a go.
Went to the gym & did a bit of strength work after. Also manged to go for a swim out at Terrigal straight after the run. That felt good.
12k run today

easy friday

Decided to run on the t'mill again. The foot seems to go fine on that but plays up abit out on the road.
I ran 10k starting off quite easy (5:27 pace) and slowley speeding it up. (3:55 pace) at the end. Foot wasn't sore at all but still feels tight compared to the right. Good news is I can at least run now!
Tomorrow is the time trial at trotters & will go down and have a go at it. Might not race it but will still give it a shot

Thursday

Got up just before 6am & was out running at 6:15am. Got 10.5k in. Could feel the foot slightly after 9k so I walked around 300m then ran home. It came good.

A few hours later I went to the gym & did 3x2k at a very easy pace with a 10min cycle in between. Foot was fine in that

16k all up today

Wednesday's hard effort

2 runs today & foot was good on both. First was an easy10k on the t'mill
The next was 6@6. We did the 6k tonight. Really stuggled in this. All my muscles got really lactic! As soon as I finished I was on the ground exausted! Well I lived & foot was great so still happy with it. I knew it was going to be tough but didn't think it would be that tough!
Slow time of 23:42

18.5k done today

12k and all is good!

Again another run on the t'mill. Ran 12k in just under an hour. Very very happy!!
Did some weights after that.
All is looking good. Might get that Canberra marathon in yet:)

Monday

Managed to do a run on the t'mill. Did 4.5k with no pain then did a cycle class then after that did another 5.5k. Still no pain. Foot just felt "tight"

6ft pic's

Easter Sunday

I set out to run & had no idea how long I was going for. I managed to get 7km in & then could start to feel the foot getting a bit sore. I was about 6k from home so I didn't want to walk the whole way so I tried to walk 2min jog 5min. The foot was great in that.

So there you go...it's not better yet but it's on the mend. It goes ok if I just do a slow jog & gets worse if I speed up.

Still 13k done all up & thats 13k more than I did last Sunday:)

No pain makes a happer runner!

Well today I went to the gym up in Kotara. These gym nowadays are looking more like 4 star hotels!
Anyway just set out an easy pace & was going to stop as soon as the foot got sore. Well It didn't get sore at all! I could feel the diffence between the left & right foot but it didn't get sore & that makes me very happy indeed!
I stopped at 10k and got on the bike for 30min then did some weights

Yesterday being good friday the gym was shut & I didn't want to run so I went to Terrigal beach & went for a 35-40min swim. That was different. I'd compare swimming in a pool as track work & open water swimming as trail running or x-country running. Well I did quite enjoy it & could do a bit more of this swimming stuff in the future.

Wednesday

Another rest from running today....well kina..I did go for a 1k slooowww jog on the t'mill. Just wanted to see how it felt with a light jog. It felt pretty good but it's still there. I then jumped on the bike for 50min. Got a good sweat up.
Will do the bike again tomorrow

rest day number 3

Well it's Tuesday & I haven't been running at all. Foot is alot better today. It was good yesterday but sore by last night. I'll keep resting it for this week. It feels like I could run on it today but I'm not risking making it worse & having to have even more time off.

Reckon it will do my body the world of good!

Looking forward to Easter break this weekend

Sunday & no running!

This is quite strange for me. It's Sunday & I went to watch Charlie, Michael M, Michael F, Tara & Mark Warren in the 10k at Linfield.
I enjoyed the rest & no stress of running.
They stuffed up the course & sent most of the runners the wrong way early in the race.
It ment that only the first couple of runners did the 10k. The rest did 9.5k. Still Mark came 3rd, Charlie was around 6th...(got beaten by a girl!haha!!) Tara was the 5th female.
All I did was eat lots of food & went for a walk along Terrigal beach. Great weather!

Sat.....still sore

Well I tried again. I got about 3 or 4 min into this run & it was starting to hurt again. Thats it!!!!....no more running untill I have no pain.
That means no Linfield race tomorrow

Friday

I went for an easy 11k this morning & all was going great until 6k. Could then feel my foot.
Will just have to take it easy on it for a bit.
Off to Canberra for work & to see my girls

Thursday

Foot was feeling good this morning so I went to the gym to run on the t'mill but after 1km it was just starting to get sore so I stopped. It's getting better but I'm not going to make it any worse.
Jumped on the bike but after 5min I was bored & had enough!
Will try again tomorrow.
I'm not bothered at all that I can't run. If this continued on for next week I'd then start to get shitty but at the moment I'm quite happy to do hardly any exercise & rest my body.
I go through this after most marathons so it's quite normal

Wednesday

All I did today was 1hr on the bike at the gym. Foot still too sore to run

Tuesday, March 11, 2008

Tuesday after the race

I did my first jog since the 6ft today.
It was just an easy 5k on the t'mill to see how the body is.
I've had quite a painful right quad & itb but other than that I've felt quite good. My quad felt like it's been corked on the t'mill & my left foot was also quite sore running. I got on the foam roller for around 10min & that helped my leg heaps.
Hpoe to do a slow 6@6 tomorrow. Even if it's only 1 or 2 laps but will just each day as it comes

Another goal reached!

Well all done! Had a pretty good race. The virus I've had all week made it hard though.
I camped at Katoomba falls caravan pk for Fri & Sat night. Was feeling okish fri night but still felt like crap. To make things even more fun the weather decided to go crazy around 8:30pm....lighting....wind....more lighting & even more wind. Holy hell I thought my tent was gouing to go off into the heavens. It must be my amazing talent of pitching it up it stayed stable:) The wind only lasted for an hour but the lighting went all night.
Still managed to get a good night's sleep.
Woke up just after 5am & had some cornflakes. It's amazing how such a simple breakfast can work wonders on the day!
Just after 6:30am I strolled over to get on the shuttle bus that takes us to the start line. I was less than 1km from that.
The race got started at 8am & we got to the start around 7:20am. The weather was just perfect for this! No rain now & nice cool (not cold conditions)
I saw alot of other trotters at the start & other runners that I know. Also meet some new people. Thats the great thing about this sport...it's competitive but mostly against yourself. You meet some amazing great people!
Had a bit of a light jog to see how my body felt & it wasn't feeling crash hot.

Anyway off we go. I kinda kept back because the start of this race is just madness! After around 500myou go down Nellies Glen...(a very steep & slippery stair & rocks) it travels for around 2km & it would be quite easy to get injured with a busted ankle.
Well got down that in around 13min then off to cox's river. I was feeling heavy in the legs from the moment the gun went & by the time I got to Megalong (8k) I was suffering. Then I go through this feel good/feel crap stage all the way to the cox's river. I just dived in & got across that in a little over 1:13. Caught up with Greg Love here but had to stop & get a stone out of my shoe. I had tied my shoelases up in triple knots so they wouldn't come undone & I couldn't undo them. Just ripped off the shoe got the thing back on & off I go again.
Now this is the bit where the hills start. Last year I ran all the hills but there was no way I could do it this year so I did what most other people did & walked/ran them.
Got to the top of that in 2:28 & finally started to feel a bit better.
Anyway 21km to go & went pretty good from here. Started to pass a heap of other runners who flew past me going up pluvi. Saw a sign saying 10km to go....Now I felt Mabye I could break 4:10...."only 10k to go Darren" I was telling myself...(yes I was talking to myself. I figure I'm mad anyway for racing this so I might aswell talk to myself!) Saw another sign saying 4.4km to go & soon the down hill was about to start.
I love the downhills so when I got to this bit I went like a bat out of hell!. I can do this I can do this was the words coming out of my mouth.
Very soon I could here the crowds at the finish line.....I looked at my watch & it said 4:08.......BANG! Off I go again. I set this goal of sub 4:10 & damn if I wasn't going to make it now. Down the stairs I go to the finish in 4:09:21!!!! 30th place.

Now let's work on my next goal shall we? I reckon Canberra 50km but this will be different as I want to race the 10km the day before & back it up with the ultra!

One sleep to go!!!!

Well the time has come! Tomorrow's the big day. All should go well. Feel heaps better than yesterday. Still got this cold but all will be great on the day! (it better bloody be!) I guess you just never know how things are going to turn out. I haven't been sick for soooo long then on the week of the race I get struck down with this thing. Anyway I did a very easy 10.5k run this morning. Legs feel really really fresh. Body felt great. Was sweating alot but thats my body fighting this thing.

Nothing else I can do now except race the race!

Wednesday

Took it easy today. Only one run. Did 6@6 at a moderate pace. Cold still there. Hoping to be good for weekend!

Tuesday......Blocked nose!

Felt blocked in head this morning.......better now than Saturday!

Did an easy 11k this morning. Felt great running, blocked nose didn't bother me at all

PM - Ran the 3000m out at Mingara.
Did this in 10:10. Thats the 2nd fastest 3000m I've ever done. The fastest was in December 2006 when I did 10:06, so I pretty happy with that!

Sunday - Orange 10km

Woke up feeling quite good at 6:20am. We got to the race at 8am. Josh, Charlie, Jono & me were all in the 10k. I had a good race in this. I went through 5k in 18:05 & was coming 4th at that stage.
I finished 3rd in 37:05. Josh came 2nd in 36:17 & Charlie came 5th or 6th in just over 38min.
I won $50 for that run.
After the run I went for a run into Orange & did another 12.5k in just over an hour. Finished with a quick swim.

We headed back just after 12ish & we didn't get lost!!!!! We had to stop for some honey though...great honey for only $5 for a kilo....yummy!
Got home not long after 6pm
Great weekend
26.5k all up today

114.5km run this week.

Less that a week until the 6ft....think I'm ready for it...the more I think of it the more I'm thinking a sub 4hr could be possible.....we will see

Saturday 1st March.....Summer is over.....what summer?

WOW! March is here already! Did you all enjoy your summer? Are your goals going to plan or have you out them on the back burner?
If you have started to drift away from your goals that you set at the start of the year don't worry as now is a great time to get back on track. If you have then make Autum your new year. If you have stayed on track.....WELL DONE! keep it up!

Now let me share with you mygreat running weekend......Today was pretty hectic (in a good way) The morning started off with the trotters at 6am. We ran a 14k run to Erina & around the base of Kincumber mtn.
Then just after 8:30am we left for Gilgandra. All was going great. I'm sitting back relaxing as a passenger does thinking all is good. (I didn't even know where Gilgandra was). We been travelling for around 20min on the F3 when all of a sudden Kerry noticed he was driving in the wrong direction! We were heading into Sydney when we should've been heading nth! So we turn around as soon as we can & we are back on track! This happened again a few hundred km into the trip but it was only a couple of min heading the wrong way before we did a u turn & start going the right way again.....the fun of these trips! We got to Gilgandra just before 3pm. I was in a 1km. I had no Idea what time my race was on until I got there. It wasn't until 7:35pm so that gave me a good time to watch the heats of the sprinters.
I had a 140m hcp, Charlie had a 90m hcp & Josh had a 36m hcp. I raced this thing as hard as I could! I was so lactate at the end...my lungs were burning!!
I got 3rd, Josh got 4th & Charlie came 6th. I picked uyp $80 for that effort so that paid for my weekend....gotta be happy with that. Josh & Charile then went in the 300m. Josh came 4th & Charlie 6th or 7th.
After all of that we headed for Orange around 9pm. Got there at 11:45pm & I was crashed out just after midnight.....LONG DAY!

20k run today
