Up about 4:20am for a quick bite to eat. Went with Tee for a bit of a warmup about 5:30am. Back to the room ten quick change then rocked up to the start. It was pretty cool (4deg) but great running weather. I stuck with the 80min pacer for about the first 5k but we were going too fast. To do a sub 80min you need to average 3:47/km but we went through the first km in just over 3:30. So by 5km I felt the pace was too quick to keep holding. I found this course straight flat & boring. I don't mind the marathon course like that but the half was tougher. Mainly as you tend to zone out. In a marathon you can still hold your marathon pace if you zone out as the pace is slower but in the 1/2 your only running slightly slower than your 10k pace & if you zone out you can find your running just that bit too slow. & that can make it hard to catch back up.
I finished in 82:52 so was alot slower than I hoped but still happy with the time.
We sepent the rest of the day out at Griffith uni track where Tee's friend was racing a 800m so we watched that then made our way to the Southport RSL club. Then the night was spent at Broadbeach at this club where we met Daniel Green (R4YL) & hung out with all those guy's for the night.
Just as we were leaving Michael Shelley (2nd in the 1/2) turned up.
Great night
