Back to the hard stuff!

I did 2 runs today.
The first was an easy run around Terrigal running lots of hills. 13k all up. I ran the hills easy though

Second run was speed seeion down at Terrigal Beach. I got there just after 5pm so went for an easy 6k before everyone else got there. There was some chaos going on down around the haven. They had the chopper out with it's spotlight on. It looked like they were looking for someone. They also had the Ambos & police there as well. Not sure what was going on but they were there for around 2hrs.
Anyway we did a beach session. 6 repeats of a 300m circuit that was on path & soft sand. We finished with a hard lap of the haven. I did that in 1:41 (550m)

Monday....cross training

No run today, just a trip to the gym in the evening for a cycle class

Bathurst 10k....what a struggle!

I think the 11hrs of driving yesterday got to me. I started off good in this but was feeling dead by 4k....still 6k to go! Well it was just bloody hard & I was glad to finish it.......small steep hills & a masive headwind on the way back made it tough.
I finished 8th place in 40:17.
Josh came second Charlie came third.
After the race I did a 14.5k easy slow run.
28.5k all up today
Then it was back in the car for the trip home

Saturday's Brooks hill

Got up bloody early to get down to Terrigal from Belmont by 6am. Had an ok run. Felt hard but the legs still heavy. Finished in 39:13. Think I came 4th.
The rest of the day was spent driving down to Ulladulla to drop the girls home then from there up to Bathust. Got there around 7:45pm meet Kerry & the mob. It was a night of camping.

ANZAC DAY

Another wet one out there. I ran easy 10k along Warners Bay to Speers pt & back.
I had to jump lot's of puddles!
I'm kinda getting over this rain. I've had my girls for the holidays all this week & it's done nothing but rain.....I take them back tomorrow...well back to Ulludalla & it's ment to be sunny! Go figure. Well we have had some fun

Old pic's Aust mtn running champ's 2007....See I do race on mtns!

Wet out there

I got drenched on...but it was pretty good running weather. After all it's only water. I almost went to the gym but decided the t'mill wasn't for me today. I told mum I'm off to run outside......."What? You need an umbrella"....yeah right...."don't get hit by a car"....yeah sounds like good advice! Thanks mum!
Well I ran on roads, in puddles & through trails. Up some hills & down some hills. All up I ran 15.2k in 1:14:08. My average speed was 4:45/km & my max speed was 3:19/km. I stopped twice. My watch gives mr all the stats! My hamstring was a little tight going down some of those hills but all good.
Will do an easy run tomorrow then have ago at the brooks hill time trial on Saturday

Wednesday & all good

Did a 14k run at a moderate pace from mum's at Belmont to Blacksmith beach & back. I felt great in this & the hamstring was all good! It felt tight at the start but loosened up pretty quick. So I'm happy with that effort.

I took the girls ice skating today. That was fun. Well I managed to go around & around the rink for about an hour then I headed off to the WARM ROOM! My youngest Skyla had had enough as well so we read books while Kalinda & Tiff kept on going around & around the rink for about another hour.
To my delight I didn't fall over once. I think Kalinda also stayed upright but Tiff & Skyla came out second best! Still they did good

Back to the running side of life.....It looks like I'll give the Bathurst 10k a go this Sunday. I might do a hilly run tomorrow

More pic's

These are some pic's from Canberra Marathon. See the blood from the nipple!

Marathon Recovery

Well it's been over a week since I've blogged. (I got lazy!)
I haven't done much running but am back into it.
I got a few runs in last week after the marathon but have had pretty tight left hamstrings. I went for my first run on the wednesday. I did that on the t'mill. Got 5k done but the hamstring tendon was sore after. I then went for a 3k on the t'mill Friday & all good. I did a couple of cycle classes that week as well. Saturday I ran Hasings road with the Trotters & the hamstring was getting sore after 5k. It was a 9.7k run. I know now withat magical thing called a Garmin!
I drove down to Wollongong Saturday arvo & meet Kerry, Charlie & Josh there in the evening. They were going in the NSW Mountain running champs. They had a 8k race up MT Burelli to do on Sunday morning. I on the other hand had a sore hamstring so no way was I going to slaughter myself up that mtn!
So I settled back with a few cold beers. It's thirty work thinking about that mountain race!
Sunday morning we headed over to the race. Well keeping with tradition we got lost getting there! & when I say we got lost I mean we got lost! But we found it.
Charlie had a magic race finishing 1st! Yep number one! Josh came in about 7th.

I then headed off to pick up my girls from Ulladulla. I stoped via Kiama & went for a 11k run. Hammie was still abit tight.

Now today being Tuesday I went to work but am now on holidays for the rest off the week. It was pissing down this morning so I went to the gym & did a hard 12k on the t'mill. Great news here as the hammie was great. I went back to the gym a bit later & did some strength work & couldn't help myself (I did another 4k run)Hammie was just perfect. Really hoping it's all good again.

Well tomorrow I'll go for another run then taking the girls Ice skating.....should be fun....Brrrrr

The 50k!

Couldn't sleep. I woke up at 2am & that was it. I just couldn't get back to sleep. Just lying in bed until 4am then got up showered & had some cornflakes...(my new pre race b'fast!)some coffee, some powerade & got to the start just after 6am.
Wow tough race! I've never raced this far before so I wasn't sure what to expect.
For the first 13k I did some fartlex running doing the first k hard then the next k easy. I did that until the 13th k then just tried to keep a steady pace.
I went through 10k in 40:30, 1/2 marathon in 1:28:xx, 30k in around 2:08, the marathon in 3:10:57 & finished in 3:50:59.
Was really slowing down from 30k but held the same pace until the marathon. I thenm picked it up until the 45k then I thought I was going to hit the wall big time! I lost all my energy, was really hurting & still had 5k to go. I had a drink of Lemonade & a gel at 45k then plodded along until the turn around just after 46k. They had some Jelly babies there. I grabed a bunch of them & all of a sudden the sugar from the lemonade, gels & jelly babies kicked in! I went from a 5:50min per k slog to 4:15 pace! I knew I was on the home stretch.
48k came & I said to my self only 2k to go....let the crowed bring me home. I wasn't going for a time at this stage, just wanted to finish strong!. 49k went pass....this is it 1k & I'm done! Went as hard as I could at the end & just lie there while the guy took the chip off my shoe.

Great weekend...all over now! Not a bad result for someone who only had 2weeks training for it.
Gotta get ready to go 2:50 at Gold Coast next!

Marathon eve!

Got up & went a an easy 10k on lake Burley Griffin

After another full on day working I raced over to the race expo & got there at 3:15pm. I quickly regist for the Marathon & 10k. I had a quick warm up then I was racing. I went hard for the first k then just sat back & went a moderate pace. It's a hard course with all the loops!
Finished in 38:21. Not sure of my place yet.
Went back to my motel, relaxed & tried to sleep.

Friday

I left for Canberra really early. Was on the road by 4:30am. I got there and went for a 14.2k run around lake Ginninderra twice. Felt good in that. Other than that I worked all day

Easy Thursday

Just one run today. Easy 10k.
Thought I'd better do some sort of taper for the marathon.
Well it's on this Sunday. I'm going to have a go at the marathon eve 10k on Saturday then do the 50k on Sunday morning. I've still got a bit of a virus in the chest so I'm more worried about the 10k than the 50k. It just makes running hard when I go fast. It's all good at the slower pace.
If I find an internet cafe in Canberra I'll try to post

Sunday

Went for a long run all around Narrandra. Josh & Charlie came with me for 9km then I ran on my own. Foot was magic through the whole run. It's pretty flat out there. Ran 25.5km in 2hrs. Gee I like the Garmin. I've just got to work out how to copy my runs so I can put it on my blog. We left Narrandra around 9:30am & took our time going home. I got home just after 5pm.

Great weekend had by all! One week until the Canberra 50k!

Saturdays Gift

We left just before 6am. Never got lost at all! We are getting better! Got out to Narrandra mid arvo & my 1k was on at 6:30pm so we had pleanty of time to kill. We drove around Narrandra for a bit . Went to Coles & got some food. We had a good feed back at our cabin. That was more like a motel unit. The weather was great. I won't go too much into detail about the weekend because I hate sitting on computers but I wasn't feeling well with a chest virus but thought it's only a 1k. I had a 115m start. Charlie had a 100m start & Josh had a 38m start. There were 9 in the race. I knew I was going to run crap but went hard anyway. Charlie got me early and not long after Josh flew past me. (I think I was running on the spot!) By the end I was gone. My chest was killing, my lungs were killing & I had pain all over. It took 30min to come back to normal. The 6ft track was way easier! But I had a goal not to come last & I got 7th out of 9 runners & that paid $35.
After the run we went for a very easy jog back to the cabin, got changed then went back to watch the final of the mens gift then off to the pub. There was spose to be a booking in the resturant for all the people involved with the gift but they had bugger all food when we got there so we sent Charlie to get pizza & garlic bread. They saw him coming & charged $9 for garlic bread!! It tasted good though! A few beers later we headed back & crashed out! We after a few more slices of pizza!

Easy Friday - good run - no pain - happy!!

Was out running at 5:15am. I had clients from 7am so got out there early. Ran 15.2k & just ran around the streets of Wamberal & Terrigal. Had no plan of where I was going to run, I just ran all around the place. No pain or niggles at all & the foot felt great! Happy days.
Still have a bit of a virus from the 6ft track. It hasn't quite gone away yet.
Tomorrow we (Kerry, Charlie, Josh & myself are off to Narrandra for the Narrandra gift. I'm in the 1k. I think we are leaving just before 6am. I'll do my long run there on Sunday before we head home

Thurs

1 easy run today. I got my garmin yesterday & It's got more git's & gadgits on it than my computer!
Anyway I ran 11km on the dot by that. It said I ran it in 55:11 & averaged 5:01 a k. It even drew a map of where I went. It had so much info about that run I'll be spending the next year working it out!
I could notice my foot but it didn't hurt at all so thats good

Wednesday 2nd April

2 runs today. First was 10k on the t'mill running easy & no pain.
The other was 6@6. Again found hard but alot better than last weeks effort. Did 20:23. So not the fastest but I'll get back there!
Good new's foot felt great!
20.5k all up today

Tuesday's 3000m

Well by Sunday night my foot was really sore & I thought I'd gone back to square one with it. When I woke up Monday it felt 150% better! No pain anywhere. I didn't run Monday but on Tuesday I got 2 run's in. The first was on the t'mill for an easy 10k. I wasn't game to run on the roads yet. It was fine on that. The next test was Mingara. I went in the 3000m. Foot was great again but I still need to test it out on another long run. The speed is good with it but the uneven surface of road running & the time I'm out on my feet all have made it worse. In saying that it has gotten alot stronger & better really quickly over the last week or so.

Anyway did the 3000m in 10:33. Came 7th. Was tough. Ialso had a run in the 800m but in this I just ran the first lap at 3000m pace (80sec) then went harder in the second lap (74sec) so I finished the 800m in 2:34
